This means that all subscribers will have 10-digit numbers. The domestic long-distance access number (16) will no longer be used. The 10-digit Numbering Plan will harmonize procedures for calls between Paris and the Paris Region and other regions in France, as well as between metropolitan France and the French Overseas Departments and Territories. The new plan will not affect current rates. France Telecom is launching the 10-digit Numbering Plan to ensure that France will have sufficient numbers to meet the growing demand for telephone, fax, mobile services and other telecoms services which may be introduced in the future. * How to determine the new 10-digit number Paris and the Paris Region Add 01 to the beginning of all 8-digit numbers, which are currently preceded only by (1). Example: (1) 53 56 96 00 ----> 01 53 56 96 00 Add 01 to the current 8-digit numbers beginning with: 30 43 49 34 44 53 39 45 55 40 46 60 41 47 64 42 48 69 Outside of Paris Add 2 digits: either 02, 03, 04, or 05, depending on the region, to the current 8-digit number. Add # begins with Add # begins with Add # begins with 03 20 02 48 04 76 03 21 05 49 04 77 03 22 04 50 04 78 03 23 02 51 04 79 03 24 05 53 03 80 03 25 02 54 03 81 03 26 05 55 03 82 03 27 05 56 03 83 03 28 05 57 03 84 03 29 05 58 03 85 02 31 05 59 03 86 02 32 03 60 03 87 02 33 05 61 03 88 05 34 05 62 03 89 02 35 05 63 04 90 02 37 05 65 04 91 02 38 04 66 04 92 02 39 04 67 04 93 02 40 04 68 04 94 02 41 04 69 04 95 04 42 04 70 02 96 02 43 04 71 02 97 03 44 04 72 02 98 05 45 04 73 02 99 05 46 04 74 02 47 04 75 Example: 31 03 02 00 becomes 02 31 03 02 00 French Overseas Departments Add 0 before the 3-digit access code for Overseas Departments, followed by the 6-digit user number. Departments 10-digit number Guadeloupe 0590 and the 6-digit number French Guiana 0594 and the 6-digit number Martinique 0596 and the 6-digit number Reunion 0262 and the 6-digit number St. Pierre-et-Miquelon 0508 and the 6-digit number Mayotte 0269 and the 6-digit number The same call procedure will apply throughout France - no matter what number you are calling or where you are calling from: all users will be reached with 10-digit numbers. The domestic long-distance access number (16) will no longer be used. * Calling from within France Paris and the Paris region to outside of Paris: 10 digits. (16 no longer used) Outside of Paris to Paris and the Paris region: 10 digits (16 no longer used) Between regions: 10 digits. Within the same region: 10 digits. For Paris and the Paris region, there are no changes. For all other regions, e.g. 33 2 31 03 02 00 * Numbers that won't change 2-digit numbers for information or emergency services, such as 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18. 4-digit numbers beginning with 36 (e.g. 3614). * Numbers that will change The directory assistance service number 11 changes to 3611. The number 06 will added before most numbers for mobile services, including vehicle-mounted or hand-portable GSM, Bi-Bop Reponse digital pocket phone, radio paging, and river and maritime services. The number 08 will be added before 8-digit numbers beginning with 36 (e.g. 36 64 03 60 will change to: 08 36 64 03 60). The number 05 at the beginning of the toll-free numbers will be replaced by 0 800 (e.g. 05 45 32 94 will change to 0 800 45 32 94). Callers will no longer hear the routing dial tone.
